He runs his checklist first, then works the extended walk, transitions, side passes, turns, lead changes, and logs in quick sequence, because in a ranch pattern one element comes right after the next and the horse has to be ready. It's a look at where a horse goes once the fundamentals are solid and the first ranch futurity is only a couple months out.
