Timing, Hand Position, and Driving Through the Turn
Practicing with Purpose with Jordon Briggs & Danyelle Campbell

12m
Jordon Briggs cruises her 4-year-old through the pattern again, focusing on bringing her hand back to her hip bone and squeezing with her legs to help the horse stay forward and upright in the turn. Danyelle Campbell steps in with feedback, encouraging Jordon to sit sooner and apply pressure earlier through the turn to help the horse commit and stay elevated.
Jordon then slows things down, walking and trotting the gelding through the pattern while practicing correct hand placement—keeping her hand low, closer to her hip, and pushing the horse through the turn instead of lifting. Danyelle demonstrates what she would do on her own horse by elevating the front end and spinning at each point of the square, showing how this helps a horse stand up, stay balanced, and drive out of the turn.
This session highlights the importance of timing, body position, and using slow work to build correct habits that carry over at speed.
