Cody Crow shares how he translates his training philosophy to his non-pro clients, starting with goal setting. Rather than chasing wins, Cody helps his clients identify one or two attainable goals with real opportunities for improvement. After a run, he makes a point of highlighting everything that went well before addressing one or two things to work on. In his experience, that approach builds confidence far more effectively than leading with criticism. Anxiety is one of the most common challenges he sees in the non-pro pen, and Cody has developed practical ways to help clients manage it. Whether that means hand walking the pattern beforehand, reviewing old videos, or simply talking through the pressure, he meets each client where they are and coaches them through it in a way that works for them. He also calls out two of the most common mistakes he sees: riders letting their own anxiety become their horse's problem, and clients sitting on their horses too long while standing around before a class. Both habits create tension that shows up in the pen. To close, Cody addresses expectations directly. Winning versus not winning does not determine success. Progress does. A thoughtful and practical breakdown of what it takes to develop non-pro riders who can compete confidently and improve consistently.
